African Violets

This is an 8 x 10 watercolor of the plant on my coffee table. It was hit and miss as I struggled with wet in wet. Most of the petals were painted fairly dry but as I became more daring, I was able to paint the leaves wet in wet, lifting color after the paint was dry to give the leaves some contour.

Thank you so much for your advice. The "veining" was the result of painting too dry. I will try to correct the excess texture with a wet brush and see how that works. The painting definitely has its problems and I will keep your advice in mind the next time!

Nice work. However, for design purposes I would crop an inch or so off the left side so that the center of the main flower is not so centered on the page. Also it would get rid of the bright yellow on the left side (which draws the eye away from the focal point). As far as the flowers, I wouldn't try to put so many veins in them. They are so "velvet like" that this destroys the texture. Otherwise, great work!
