I painted this after masking the birds and sea foam. I splattered masking fluid for the sea spray. After removing the masking fluid, I softened the edges of the foam with a damp brush and retouched the foam. I could have done the painting without masking but I think it was easier to use it and keep my whites crisp.

I like the movement in the painting, but I would love to see more colors in the water. I think I see a tinge of pink in the lower sky, and would love to see some of that reflected in the highlights of the waves. That will tie the painting together better. The white caps are not always white, and are more interesting when they have some pale warm colors in them. I hope you will find this helpful.
