Thank you very much Mary Ann for your thoughtful and helpful suggestions. I have reworked the painting and it is uploaded again as Forest Fire_3. Your comments on this would be most useful.

PS: Regarding the wax pencil I take your suggestion and try it. A pencil certainly can be wielded better to coincide with your intent on the painting. What one does to remove the wax when you wish to paint on this portion afterwards so that the white space is covered?

Amby, I am not a proponent of masking fluid, as the final product never seems to be what I intended it to be. You might want to take the suggestion of one of the contributors to this site, and use a white wax pencil. It will repel the paint and keep the area white with a bit more sharpness.
