glazing

I would love to learn about glazing. I paint mostly in watercolour and at times would like to recolour the whole painting to give a sunlit or cloudy mood by glazing the whole picture in different colours. Could you please do a lesson on this. I always worry about spoiling what I have done and making it worse instead of better. My teacher once suggested we use a wax crayon for sunlit rays on a dry watercolour painting which gave a different effect but I would like to experiment more. Should I use a different type of paint or the same? I sometimes get so frustrated I came to painting quite late in life and feel I am missing out on so many ideas. I go to a weekly class of mixed abilities using different medias which has a lovely crowd and is inexpensive. I have a very limited income but would really like to concentrate on what I want to do and learn how to do more in watercolours. Finding your website was a godsend.

Rosemarie,
I recently loaded a video on Youtube about glazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ0RnYMjeEk
I am in the process of making a video of how to use the glazing as an underpainting. Hopefully it will be finished and uploaded soon. Look for a newsletter from me about glazing, and a new page on this site with more instruction and explanation of the process.

Rosemarie,
Thank you for the idea. I will certainly do a lesson on glazing. In fact I am getting ready to do some more videos and that would be a great subject. I will have to do them in sections, especially if I teach you how to glaze. So there will be more than one video because I cannot put my little camera on "hold" while each layer dries. There are several kinds of glazing, however, and maybe I can incorporate more than one in a video. Go to Youtube.com/user/maboysen and sign up for my youtube videos so that when I load them you will be the first to know.
