USE OF COLOR
by: K Zaller

This is a very lovely and peaceful piece. I feel cool and can feel the slight decrease in temperature while I'm in the shaded parts of your painting. I do agree with Mary Ann regarding the use of color to liven the painting up a bit. I happen to love color and probably couldn't do what you do. However the use of complementary colors in a subtle way can bring such life into a painting. For example; when creating shadows drop the complementary color to mix and puddle right on the canvas. Some purples in that piece would be wow!

But it all depends upon what you as the artist wants to convey. After all you are the master of your work.

I love it!

Kentucky Memory

I agree with Donna that your distant trees are great because of their softness. I don't usually detail leaves in the foreground, but you did a nice job. The contrast in detail and softness works well in the painting. And I also like the detail in the cabin and the soft shadows. My only suggestion is that you put more color into your greens. I only see a bit of yellow here and there. To entertain the eye of the viewer, try dropping in some reds and blues when the paint is very wet and allowing it to blend. See my page on this site about making greens colorful. http://www.watercolor-painting-tips.com/summer-landscapes.html

Luscious greenery!!!
by: Donna Pierce-Clark

Those trees are so beautiful and soft. The harder edges of the architecture compliments them nicely.
