When painting trees with leaves, it is advisable to paint the foliage first (always!)...then you can place the trunk and secondary branches anywhere, thereby allowing some of the leaves to be in front of the trunk or branches. Otherwise, all the leaves look like they are all behind the tree or branches. I see that you have put the different colors of the leaves on in dabs of color. Have you tried wetting the foliage area first, and applying colors on the damp paper so that they blend?
