The most effective marketing I ever did was to put
the image in the newspaper with an article that said that this image would
be going to press.
I
would then list a pre-press price which was somewhat less
expensive that the projected retail cost. If you get enough orders (paid
in full) before printing, then your printing bill will be paid in full
and the rest will be gravy. After that, you can easily place them in
galleries that accept prints and their commission won’t hurt so much.
