I painted this picture from a photograph i took on a hike to low divide in Olympic National Park. It was juried into the 2008 Paint The Parks Top 100. www.paintamerica.com.

this is done on 300# arches paper---i prefer 300# paper cause it doesn't warp or bend when soaked with water. I project the image onto the paper and pencil sketch in the land masses. I paint the sky first and then I then paint all snow shadows with paynes grey before painting the mountain areas---i treat each mountian area as a seperate painting. the whole process for this painting took about 18 hours.(not counting time to watch paint dry)
