The Cripple's Smile

by John LI
(Hong Kong)

This painting was finished about ten years ago and it represents my concerns of Old and Retired People. I felt sad and sorry for those people who have been contributing their whole life for the society and once they become old and retired, it seems that no one will ever remember them again. However, I would like to bring the beauty of them and their spirit of hardworking will last forever.

Your work is beautiful. I would like you to consider changing the title though because cripple (to me) seems a bit offensive to elderly folk. I do understand your concern for getting older and possible the disabilities that can come with aging thus the inspiration for your work... but as a disabled person, I find "cripple" offensive.
