The Rookery At Dusk Reflections

The Rookery At Dusk Reflections

It's been awhile since I've submitted anything. This is my attempt to work a little looser. My previous submissions have been tighter - more like drawing I used to do. I am hoping by going back and forth between the 2 styles I will eventual find a happy medium and my own style. I also used a heavier, rough paper, which I was surprised to find I really liked.
It was the reflections in the water that actually inspired the painting.

Thanks Mary Ann
for criticing my paintings. I've been wanting to try the Rookery again. Everytime I start a painting I never know exactly how it is going to come out and it's a learning experience, even if I don't like it at the end. I can understand how may of the masters painted the same subject over and over again.
It's helpful to me to have the comments because my schedule has not left much time to interact with other artisis. (2 jobs!)

Nice attempt, especially on rough paper. I find, however, that the trees are a bit too dark at the tops and the branches seem to be stunted as if they had been in a forest fire. Try using a smaller brush as you reach the tops of the trees. If you really think about it, silhouetted trees have some soft edges when the sunbeams shine between the branches. Go a little softer in some of the areas. And keep the branches connected to the tree.
