Unleashing Your Creativty

By Mary Ann Boysen

Here are some I think about and practice that could help you in unleashing your creativity. If you have your own ways to stay motivated and creative please share them with us

  • Act as if you can and you will succeed - This replaces the “I can’t” thinking. I learned this when I was in business. He/She who acts professionally will be treated as a professional. He/She who says, “I can,” will find a way to make it true. It works! It makes you think (maybe sometimes it makes you sweat, but you will get the job done!

  • Write down three reasons why you want to succeed

  • Do two things today or this week, that will put you on that track.

Some things you do will teach you how to refine your work in the future. There are NO mistakes, only lessons.

Persistence, practice and perseverance are the keys to learning and honing your skills. No one gets to the top without a lot of wastage. Good works don’t come easily. They don’t necessarily take so much talent. They take determination and desire. I always say to my students, “Success is 95% desire, and 5% talent. And I believe that to be true.

Have you ever written an article or a book that didn’t require many efforts of proofing? Over and over, this must be done to get it right. “Add this, subtract that, reword this, correct the typo”, etc.

How many paintings have you done that were perfect the first time around? Actually it is good to ruin a few, start over with the same image and keep in mind the mistakes to avoid. They are much better the second time or third time around.

Ways to get there!

  1. Try new things:   Create a palette of your own. Try the combinations of three primary colors to see what works for you and your subject matter.

  2. Play, make a mess. Then,

  3. Make a chart using these colors together - Decide what would best be painted with them. Maybe this should be your main subject matter! Exercises like this seem mundane at first, but before you are finished you will have a grasp of color combinations that are beautiful. You will finish the job elated!
