That is a term I use when describing the haze in the distance as contrasted to the detail of the foreground. There is a lot of atmosphere between the viewer and the distant hills, so it is important to keep the colors cool and pale. As you approach the foreground, stronger colors and more detail can be used. Here, I was standing beside the church in which "The English Patient" was filmed. Pienza is a small, but captivating town. If you ever go to Tuscany, it is a MUST on your journey.
