My Diamond (the kite)

My Diamond (the kite)

I was born and raised in East Harlem known as Spanish Harlem or El Barrio. I created a
watercolor collection titled "Memories of East Harlem. It reflects my childhood experiences in the 1950s.

My paintings images show children engaged in play activities or doing things that don't exist today. As a son of Puerto Rican parents who migrated to New York City in the 1940s and as a Nuyorican, I tried to show how I grew up in a migrant urban Puerto Rican community in the 50s.

You are doing a fantastic job recounting in paint your childhood experiences, and everyone should appreciate this effort. You must be of my vintage! I also grew up in the fifties, but in a different local. I didn't have your kind of experiences, but of course, they were very viable due to the fact that I was Southern Born, and there was lots of prejudice. Fortunately, it was not a difficult childhood, and I never let the prejudice affect my outlook on relationships with all kinds of people. Keep up the good work. No matter what you do, get the word out about those years. Paintings speak louder than words in many cases. Keep it up! And congratulations on your efforts.
